Course: Native History and U.S. Political Relations

This course examines Native American history and the evolving political relationship between Indigenous nations and the United States over the past three centuries. Key topics include treaty-making, federal-tribal policy, colonization, forced removals, reservation systems, and Indigenous self-governance. Students will analyze historical and contemporary challenges faced by Native communities, emphasizing tribal sovereignty, resilience, and the pursuit of justice among over 500 federally recognized tribal nations. (Prerequisite: GPA greater/equal to 2.6; OR Next Gen Rdg score greater/equal to 250 AND Writing score greater/equal to 237; OR ACT Rdg score greater/equal to 15 AND English greater/equal to 15; OR 10-831-107, College Reading and Writing with a B or better)
